Otter Creek Reservoir

Otter Creek is a great Rainbow Trout fishery, and has been for years. It is known for a great spring bite for fly anglers and has been productive throughout the summer, fall, and winter on a general basis. Plenty of Rainbows over 24 inches are caught here fairly regularly with much bigger to be had from time to time. Recently, however, Wipers have been coming out at ridiculous sizes. Many anglers have caught fish over 10 pounds and the state record was recently broken at over 18 pounds April 2025. Great family fishery too with pretty easy access for shore and boat anglers!

Uinta Mountains

If you're looking for a beautiful landscape, you've found it. The Uintas are a deep and vast mountain range with hundreds of alpine lakes full of Brook, Rainbow, Tiger, and Cutthroat Trout with a few other hidden gems to discover. There are so many lakes to choose from and most of them require some amount of hiking. Although there are a fair amount of road side lakes with more traffic as well. I prefer the lakes that require a hike of 3-4 miles to start getting into the massive numbers of fish. They are not usually known for size although there are some big fish to be had if you look hard enough, but they are known for willingly taking dry flies and great for all types of fishermen to enjoy. For you campers, backpackers, hikers, and fishermen, you all can find a lake to call your favorite here in the Uintas.

Flaming Gorge Reservoir

This is Utah's most prized Lake Trout fishery and may be considered one of the best in the west for big lakers. It can be tough fishing here, but the reward is intense. Many lakers over 40 and even 50 pounds are caught here pretty regularly. A chance at a trophy is great here and is the main reason many anglers fish here so much. On another note, Kokanee Salmon are prolific here and regularly stocked. They grow fast and large here, providing another big attraction for anglers. These make a great dish and they fight really well, and are easily guided or self guided too. They can also be a great day saver if you're struggling with the big macs. There is a solid Rainbow Trout fishery here too. Tons of sizable rainbow and cutthroat trout get caught here all year long and are readily available, as well as lake trout pups, and the occasional big brown trout. Smallmouth Bass fishing is still good here, despite some of the decline as of late. There are still a lot of 3 lb bass caught here and they can make for a great summer day of fishing on a beautiful piece of nature.

Boulder Mountains (Utah)

Boulder mountain is a tough one to break down into just one location, due to the amount of high quality lakes that may deserve their own attention. Getting you best outfitted for a trip here may require a little personal touch, but let's break this down!

Plethora of small alpine lakes and a few big lakes managed by UDWR for trophy fishing opportunities. They hold Brook Trout, Tiger Trout, Colorado River and Bonneville Cutthroat, Arctic Grayling, and Rainbow Trout, and surprisingly, even a few Tiger Muskies.

The lakes' conditions can fluctuate yearly, and it's easy to miss plan due to changing water levels or fishing conditions. But, this is also what makes these lakes recycle so strongly. At any given time, somewhere on this mountain is producing big fish, and we have the contacts to get you on fish here. BUT... DIY trips are doable. The only catch is that you'll want a vehicle that can handle tough roads. And there tends to be plenty of hiking to be had for other better chances at big fish.

Either way you cut it, we have information on every lake on the mountain, and can point you towards your next trophy trout!

Provo River

The Provo River is one of Utah's most famous fisheries and here's why. 2nd only to the green river in Utah, the Provo River has about 3,500 fish per mile which is insane. It's hard to go wrong with that many fish every mile! The fish are still selective, but fly fishermen are typically able to figure them out. There are a plethora of guides to choose from, many of which I know personally and can help you with if that's what you're interested in! There are 3 sections of the river; the lower, middle and upper. The middle is the most technical but is great for very small bodied dry fly hatches, and probably has the most fish per mile. It's between Jordanelle and Deer Creek Reservoir. It does still kick out some giant browns once in awhile. The upper is mostly know for lots of small fish and a mix of trout species between brown, cutthroat, rainbow, tiger and brook trout, in the uinta mountain range. The lower is known for a better average sized fish, and has the most access along roads or small walks. Mostly Browns and some rainbows reside here. Many prolific hatches occur all year, and nymph fishing with indicators will cover you for all the in between times. Get out here and start catching a bunch of nice brown and rainbow trout!

Panguitch Lake

Panguitch means "big fish" in Paiute language which should tell you about the fishing here. It is a well known attraction in southern Utah, for Trout anglers. Great ATV tour options, caves, and other outdoor activities besides the typically wonderful fishing. It kicks out great big Tiger, Rainbow, and Cutthroat Trout. It's a good fly fishing lake, but bait anglers and conventional fishermen are all taking their fair share of big fish. The resort

Deer Creek Reservoir

Deer Creek is a medium sized reservoir located in North/Central Utah. It is a popular Rainbow Trout fishery, but sports a huge population of Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Yellow Perch, and less often but still regularly produces big Brown Trout and Largemouth Bass too. It's an awesome multi species fishery and Utahns will always consider it a favorite. All species of fish grow large here due to the food source and variety of fish doing different jobs in the reservoir.
