Chum Salmon

Oncorhynchus keta

Chum Salmon
summerfall

Description

The Chum Salmon (aka dog salmon) is actually the 2nd largest growing salmon species and can put up quite the fight. They are not as popular for table fare as the Silvers, Reds, or King Salmon but they are hardy eaters and fun fighters. They also develop some whacky spawn colors. Some red and purple mixtures with some large messy vertical bars make for a unique looking fish. Definitely worth the catch when they come around.

Habitat

Saltwater coastal areas with rivers to run up in freshwater. Mostly found in Alaska
